Innovator Networking Series with Assembly Biosciences & Make Music Day

June 21, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

You won’t want to miss our last gathering before the summer starts!

This month’s Innovators Networking event will be extra special — Not only will we feature the Startup Success Story of Assembly Biosciences, a company in residence at The Commons, we will also take part in Make Music Day!

Assembly Biosciences will present  Bugs to Drugs: Using Live Biotherapeutics for Treatment of the Human Microbiome

Assembly Biosciences is advancing a new class of novel oral synthetic live biotherapeutics for disorders associated with the human microbiome.  Unlike conventional chemical-based drug therapies, Assembly is developing new therapies that are designed to use commensal bacteria to treat various disease states of the microbiome.  We are building an inventory of isolated bacterial strains recovered from highly screened human donors.  A subset of these strains is then selected based upon demonstrated correlations with health outcomes in individuals who have recovered from specific diseases or disease states.  The selected bacteria are then grown in pure cultures under anaerobic conditions using pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).  In addition, Assembly Biosciences manufactures a novel, orally administered, “capsule-in-capsule” delivery system (Gemicel®), which is designed to release drug in a bimodal fashion in two specific regions of the gastrointestinal tract.  Our list of targeted indications includes IBD (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), IBS, immuno-oncology, NASH and metabolic diseases.  Assembly’s laboratories at the BioCT Innovation Commons are responsible for all pharmaceutical product development activities associated with Assembly’s microbiome technology platform, including drug substance (bacterial strains), drug product (Gemicel capsules), analytical/quality testing, and stability.

Acoustic music will be provided by Anna Day and Barstool Diplomats.

STE[A]M: Arts & Design in Science, an art show featuring 25 works by 15 artists, will also be on display.

Of course, we will also have our usual great networking, food and drinks. Gratis.

Bring a friend and let’s celebrate the Summer Solstice!
