Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development

The Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) develops and implements strategies to attract and retain businesses and jobs, revitalize neighborhoods and communities, ensure quality housing and foster appropriate development in Connecticut’s towns and cities. Understanding the importance of providing a community science incubator to convene expertise and entrepreneurs in Southeastern CT, the state and DECD funded a $4.2 M grant to the BioCT Innovations, LLC to renovate a building donated by Pfizer to create The Commons.

The Commons and BioCT will help its network connect with the DECD Office of Science which is devoted exclusively to providing business development assistance to science firms. The office supports and strengthens Connecticut’s science industry by: Facilitating the growth of existing companies; Providing science companies with a single source they can turn to for financial and technical assistance; Working to make the state’s policies and programs, as well as its permitting and regulatory practices, conducive to science growth; and Spotlighting Connecticut as a global center of science.
